You must always bear in mind George Frankl’s proof that human nature is fundamentally good, that all babies are born good and loving.
You must always bear in mind reason with love.
You must learn to think for yourselves, to be intellectually vigorous and intellectually courageous.
You must aim to be inclusive. You must communicate and co-operate. You must listen. You must be inclusive as far as possible within loving reason. You must be generous within loving reason. You must not allow others to bear the burdens of your generosity.
You must learn to trust your own judgements, and to discriminate between what is beneficial and what is harmful.
You must understand that thinking based largely or solely on ideology is lazy, narrow and restrictive, and that judgements based on ideological thinking are untrustworthy.
You must take responsibility for yourselves, and for your own actions. You must recognise that laying blame is lazy and fruitless. You must recognise that making scapegoats is lazy and immoral.
You must always ask the question why?.
Democracy is the best system of government so far devised. Those of us who live within a democracy must be grateful: democracy allows us to think and speak freely and freedom of speech is vital to freedom of thought. Democracy is made by human beings and is therefore flawed. Fools strut and jape looking for the mother’s applause.
You must honour, safeguard and protect all the children, all the world’s children. You must be adult.
